    • Rough measurements Width, height, and depth of the opening, or the length of the wall. A tape measure and a phone are enough.
    • Gas or no gas Whether there’s a gas line at the house. It narrows the fireplace and grill options more than anything else.
    • Timeline and budget range So we recommend what fits — and tell you honestly if the season or the budget calls for a different plan.
